The two-week gap is the sweet spot for most homes because a competent cleaner can keep a 3-bed house at a good standard in the same 2.5 hours whether they come every week or every fortnight. What changes is how it feels in between.
Why fortnightly is the most popular choice
Around two-thirds of the regular customers we clean for across Cheshire choose fortnightly. It halves the monthly cost against weekly, the cleaner still does a full clean of kitchen, bathrooms, floors and surfaces every visit, and for a household that keeps on top of the basics (dishes, bins, a quick wipe) the home rarely slips far. It is the choice we suggest if you are unsure, because moving to weekly later is one click and you keep the same cleaner.
When weekly earns its cost
- Pets. Hair and paw prints on hard floors do not wait two weeks.
- Young children. Kitchen floors, high chairs and bathrooms take a beating.
- Larger homes. Four or five bedrooms with two or three bathrooms often need 3.5 hours; weekly keeps that from creeping up.
- Working from home. If you are in the house all day, you notice it all day.
- You want it to feel done. Some people simply prefer the rhythm of a Friday clean. That is a good enough reason.

Why monthly usually disappoints
A monthly visit is not a regular clean; it is a small deep clean every four weeks, which is why most companies price it that way and why the cleaner needs 3.5 to 4 hours rather than 2.5. You pay nearly as much as fortnightly for a home that looks great for a couple of days and average for the rest of the month. If budget is the issue, a shorter fortnightly visit covering just the kitchen, bathrooms and floors is usually better value than a long monthly one.
What gets done in a regular visit
Whether weekly or fortnightly, a standard visit covers:
- Kitchen surfaces, hob, sink and the fronts of appliances
- Bathrooms cleaned and sanitised: toilet, basin, bath or shower, mirror
- Dusting of surfaces, shelves and ledges throughout
- Floors vacuumed and hard floors mopped
- Bins emptied, beds straightened, a general tidy of the rooms you have chosen
Things like the inside of the oven, inside windows, skirting boards in every room and the inside of the fridge are either rotated across visits or booked as add-ons. If the house needs a reset first, book a deep clean and then switch to regular; most of our customers start that way.

About 2.5 hours for a regular weekly or fortnightly visit with one bathroom and one living room. Add roughly 30 minutes for each extra bathroom and 25 minutes for each extra bedroom.
Is a cleaner once a month enough?
For most homes, no. A monthly visit is effectively a small deep clean and costs almost as much as fortnightly while the house looks average for most of the month. A shorter fortnightly visit is usually better value.
Can I switch between weekly and fortnightly?
